ABA Therapy

Intro to ABA

At Spark Learning, we practice Applied Behavior Analysis, also known as “ABA” therapy. ABA therapy is based on proven theories that describe how humans learn behavior. With a highly experienced, board-certified clinical team, we use ABA therapy to create a roadmap for each individual child, so we can help improve their overall quality of life.

Every ABA journey is different, but follows a basic formula. First, we identify your concerns, then we set measurable and attainable goals for your child and build a customized plan that will encourage behavioral changes over time. When we implement a plan, we’re constantly gathering more data and making adjustments as needed to help each child reach their goals.

We utilize this proven therapy model to help simplify the learning process, reduce challenging behavior, maximize success and teach you how to create consistency at home – all with an eye on bringing the fun.

How ABA Can Help Your Child

Applied Behavior Analysis is an evidence-based treatment that blends education and clinical psychology. Decades of research has proven that there are certain “laws” that underlie human behavior and learning. ABA therapy features treatments and techniques that are designed around these laws to decrease behaviors that interfere with learning and increase positive behaviors

ABA strategies can help to:

  • Increase language and communication skills
  • Build upon inherent strengths to learn new skill-sets
  • Improve focus, attention, memory and social skills
  • Teach family and other caregivers how to create success at home
  • Decrease maladaptive behaviors like aggression, tantrums or self-injury
  • Transfer skills into a variety of places with a variety of people

Our methodology involves prompting, shaping and reinforcement while breaking down skills into small, teachable steps. All of our strategies are practiced with the intent to help children learn what TO do, not just what to STOP doing.

The ABC’s of ABA

Our Clinical Care Team

We have a range of highly qualified and experienced care providers on our team, at different tiers of ABA certification and training levels. Our clinical leadership team is made up of several Board-Certified Behavior Analysts, also known as BCBAs. BCBA’s assess, develop and oversee treatment plans and work with Registered Behavior Technicians as well as parents, caregivers and children to create consistency and successful program implementation.

To become a BCBA, one must hold a master’s degree in a human service field such as early childhood development, education, psychology, behavior analysis or special education. They must also acquire a minimum set of applied skills through training, supervision and passage of the BCBA exam. Additionally, they must be licensed by the state of Texas.

A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is an ABA therapist who is trained and certified to fulfill a child’s treatment plan with behavioral interventions. Our loving therapists work with children to reach their goals each day with the guidance and support of a BCBA. As an organization, we support our RBT’s in acquiring the skills, education and work-hours they need to reach BCBA certification.

At Spark, we’re dedicated to providing quality ABA therapy in a comfortable, kid-friendly environment. On top of interviewing candidates rigorously for technical and experiential qualifications, we also deeply value being great with children. Time and time again, we see that our children make incredible progress because we implement therapy with love, care and fun.
