Peer Model ABA Preschool Program: Inclusive Learning at Little Sparks

Together is Better
At Little Sparks, our belief is simple: learning happens best when kids learn with each other, in a space that’s playful, inclusive, and full of heart. We welcome Peer Models who don’t receive ABA therapy or Speech therapy on their own, but who play, learn, and grow alongside peers who are receiving intervention. Curious about being a Peer Model? Let’s dive in!
What is Little Sparks?
First things first, Little Sparks is a fully licensed, high-quality early childhood education program, proudly accredited at the 4-star level by the Texas Rising Star program. This is the highest quality rating available, and it’s something we work hard to maintain every day. Our approach is built around low ratios, an individualized and curriculum-driven model, and a deep commitment to inclusion and developmental support for all children.
Little Sparks is a place where curiosity, kindness, and growth come together in an environment designed to nurture the whole child. With small class sizes, personalized attention, and a play-based learning philosophy, every child has the chance to shine. Whether a child is receiving ABA, speech therapy, or joining as a peer model, they are immersed in a setting where learning is meaningful, joyful, and inclusive.
For peer models, the experience is especially powerful. Research consistently shows that neurotypical children in inclusive settings develop stronger empathy, leadership abilities, and social skills than they might in more traditional learning models.
Building Empathy and Leadership
Being a peer model offers far more than the chance to make new friends. It is an opportunity for children to step into a role where they can lead by example, learn patience, and see the world from another perspective. When children spend their days playing, learning, and problem-solving alongside peers with varying abilities, they gain an understanding that differences are not barriers. They learn to celebrate small victories, to encourage others through challenges, and to communicate in ways that are respectful and supportive. These daily experiences foster kindness, confidence, and adaptability; qualities that are essential for navigating both school and life beyond the classroom.
Over time, peer models often become more self-aware, more willing to try new approaches, and are better equipped to work with people who think and communicate differently. This blend of empathy, leadership, and flexibility not only strengthens their character but also gives them tools they will carry into future friendships, academic challenges, and eventually the workplace.
Natural Learning for All
At Little Sparks, learning is embedded seamlessly into the classroom day. There is no rigid division between “therapy time” and “playtime.” Instead, evidence-based practices such as the Frog Street Curriculum and ABA teaching strategies are integrated into games, exploration, and friendship. This approach allows all children to grow through natural, joyful interactions rather than scripted instruction.
Peer models often play an active role in this process. Guided by teachers, they might offer a gentle prompt to a classmate, celebrate a peer’s success, or model how to join in a group activity. These small actions teach patience, communication, and the value of helping others. Children receiving support benefit from authentic social connections that encourage skill-building in real time. The result is a classroom where everyone’s progress is celebrated and every child’s strengths are valued.
True Inclusion in Action
Inclusion in Little Sparks is not just a philosophy. It is something you can see and feel in our classrooms. Peer models and children with autism learn side by side, sharing activities, problem-solving, and celebrating milestones together. This daily interaction creates a classroom culture where differences are respected and everyone belongs.
The benefits of inclusion extend far beyond those receiving support services. Diverse classrooms prepare all children for the world outside school, a world where people bring different abilities, perspectives, and experiences to the table. Peer models help bridge understanding, break down stereotypes, and foster a spirit of acceptance.
